Toyakoonsen is located on the southern side of Lake Toya is abundant in nature and hot springs, it is one of the most famous hot spring resorts in Hokkaido, gathering more than 3.5 million people a year. 5 Nishiyama Promenade

A new eruption occurred on the west side of Usuzan in March 2000. The craters, still emitting smoke, can be seen from a close distance on the 800-meter trail extending over the hill that rose up to 70 meters by the eruption. It is 3 minutes away from Toyakoonsen by bus, and takes about 40 minutes to make a tour. The promenade opens from April 20 to November 10.

6 Konpira Promenade

Just behind downtown Toyakoonsen, the stricken area damaged by the eruptions of 2000 has been kept as live teaching material of natural disasters. The promenade opens from April 20 to November 10

7 Lake Cruise

One can enjoy a tour of Nakajima a group of islands in the middle of Lake Toya by ferry. The magnificent nature surrounding Mt. Yotei, Showashinzan and Usuzan can be seen from the deck throughout the year.

8 Volcanic Science Museum

The Volcanic Science Museum in Toyakoonsen features the disaster records of the active volcano Mt. Usu or Usuzanfs eruptions. After the latest eruption in 2000, new information and exhibits such as pictures, documentary films, volcanic ashes and rocks from the eruption were brought in for display. From May 2007, the museum will be moved to a brand new building with upgraded facilities.

9 Campsites

Lake Toya is a 42-km-long doughnut-shaped lake and there are 5 campsites along the lake. The road along the lake is 36km-long and good for cycling, also buses run between Toyakoonsen bus terminal (the south of the lake) and Mizunoeki bus station (the north of the lake) in clockwise-routes and counter-clockwise-routes.

‡@Green Stay Toyako is a fully equipped auto-campsite outside Toyakoonsen. Site fees are from 4,000.

‡ATakarada Campsite is on the northern side of the lake. Various sites are available from the charge of 700 for an adult.

‡BToya Campsite is across the lake from Toyakoonsen. It is a sandy beach campsite with beautiful lake view.

‡CNakatoya and ‡DTakinoue Campsites are on the eastern side of the lake.

10 Nakajima Promenade & Forest Museum
Nakajima is a group of islands dotting the middle of Lake Toya. The biggest one called Oshima features Ezo deer, which are unique to Hokkaido, and Forest Museum exhibiting the works and objects related to the nature and wild animals of the lake. 11 Irie Mound Park
Discovered in 1942, the park was designated by the national government as a historical site in 1988 after the excavation investigation. Also the shell mound museum, which features old-dayfs equipments and findings, is in this area.
